League Game
Fixture: Gleniffer Thistle 4 v Glenvale FC 3
Date: Saturday 20 August 2011
Venue: Abbotsinch, Gleniffer Park KO 14.00

The first competitive game of the season started against Glenvale at home in the league and it turned out to be a thriller
for the neutral spectator. Gleniffer started brightly in the first 10 mins and were unlucky not to take the lead, however it
was Glenvale that took a shock lead against the run of play and scored in 11 mins with a long defensive clearance chased by Glenvale's
striker and Gleniffer centre half who did well to control the ball and shrug off defender ran in on Gleniffer's box and hit a well placed
low shot past the advancing keeper to make it 1-0 to Glenvale. This goal had an immediate effect on Gleniffer and in 15 mins played
they got their equaliser, which came from a superb strike 30 yards out from Aiden Devine. Gleniffer took control of the game now and pressed
for a second goal that came in 25mins from good work by Robbie Cameron down the right and squared the ball to Mark Russell who then
put a splitting pass thro the Glenvale defence and Blair Lyons raced ahead and collected then neatly slotted the ball past the advancing keeper
to make it 2-1 to Gleniffer. Gleniffer didn't let up and continued for more and a third duly came when Gleniffer were awarded a free kick
35 yards out from goal, the ball was expertly flighted into the box and Ross Geddes was there to head powerfully on goal, which the Glenvale
keeper did well to keep out but he parried the ball out and again Ross Geddes was there to head the ball this time past the keeper to make it
3-1 Gleniffer in 33 mins played the score line remained this till halftime.

The second half commenced and within 4 mins of played Glenvale scored a peculiar goal from a seemingly tame low cross from there left this cross was left by all including Glennie's keeper and went in to make the score 3-2 to Gleniffer. This goal spurned Glenvale on and they pressed for an equaliser and with 8 mins played they scored a goal to make it 3-3 from poor clearance from Gleniffer and passed the ball across their area and the Glenvale striker fired a speculative low shot that somehow went by Gleniffer's keeper. For the next 10 mins it was Glenvale who looked more likely to score and things went from bad to worse when a Gleniffer player got sent off with 20 mins played in the second half. Gleniffer rallied and changes were made to players and positions and it was Gleniffer's turn to put pressure on Glenvale and in 30mins took the lead when good work down the left between Aiden Devine and Ollie Lincoln and the cross ball was met by Kris Holmes to slot the ball in for Gleniffer's fourth goal making it 4-3 to Gleniffer. With 10 men Gleniffer continued to push for more and were unlucky not to score a fifth when again Mark Russell held the ball up then passed through Glenvale's defence with Blair Lyons making same run as his second goal however he narrowly put the ball past the post this time. Another chance fell to Gleniffer when a fine cross by Aiden Devine was put on Blair Lyons head but unfortunately put over the bar. The game ended with Gleniffer obtaining a winning start in trying to defend their title as  League champions, although all coaches not pleased with first 20 mins of second half they can't fault the boys effort when playing with 10 to pick themselves up and win. There were some good individual performances, however Darren Gilmour gave that little bit extra to be MOM, closely followed by Ollie Lincoln.

Competition : League Game
Fixture: Giffnock Thistle 3 v Gleniffer Thistle 0
Date: Wednesday 31 August 2011
Venue: Williamwood High School, Giffnock

Gleniffer went into this game having players injured, this combined with lack of games proved costly on the night without taking anything away from Giffnock's result. The game started well enough for Gleniffer and played some nice passing for first 10 mins, however in 12 mins
played and with Gleniffer on the ball gave it away just outside the box to Giffnock's striker, who gladly took this pass and finished
with a wonderful strike by Glennie's keeper to make it 1-0 Giffnock. Gleniffer continued to play Russian roulette in defence and this time
the ball again outside the box was left by two gleniffer defenders to clear, they left it for each other and the same Giffnock striker
who couldn't believe his luck picked up the ball and ran inside the box to score his and Giffnock's second 2-0 Giffnock. Gleniffer battled away
but the kamikaze defending this time from a corner cost Gleniffer another goal, which they had three chances to clear halftime score 3-0.

Gleniffer officials must have said something to wake the players up as the second half display was all Gleniffer and were totally in control, however it was Giffnock who got 10 players back to defend. Gleniffer continued to push and some chances either hit the post or were saved by Giffnock keeper to summarise when Gleniffer did score it was disallowed half wat thro second half. The only pleasing point for Gleniffer was their second half display. but the damage was done in first half to have the final score 3-0. The referee's MOM was Mark Russell

Competition : 1st Round Scottish Cup
Fixture: Eastwood Juveniles 3 v Gleniffer Thistle 4
Date: Sunday 11 September 2011
Venue: Huntly Playing Fields, Giffnock

This is another game that Gleniffer went into having to shuffle players into different positions due to injuries. The game started with Gleniffer
passing well throughout the team and were unlucky not to take the lead in 5 minutes when a Blair Lyons shot just over the bar, however
Gleniffer's first goal came in 8 minutes with some good interlinking play between Mark Russell, Blair Lyons who then passed to Adam Drummond and his first touch got him by the defender and expertly chipped the ball over the advancing Eastwood keeper to make it 1-0, however although Glennie were in control some slack marking in defence allowed Eastwood to equalise against the run of play in 12 mins played to make it 1-1. With the amount of possession Glennie had and this time some good play again, which resulted in a perfect cross from Ollie Lincoln who found Blair Lyons leap above the defender at the far post to header by the keeper to make it 2-1 Gleniffer in 22 mins played. Gleniffer continued to press and again in 30 mins played scored their third goal by some good work by Darren Gilmour who then found Blair Lyons who's shot was well placed by Eastwood keeper to make it 3-1, however Gleniffer's defence who once again had a lapse of concentration on who was clearing the ball allowed the Eastwood striker to get between them and hit a lovely 25 yard strike past Gleniffer's keeper to make it 3-2 in 37 mins and this scored remained until halftime.

The second half commenced with Gleniffer again taking control and making plenty of chances majority of them fell to Robbie Cameron who unfortunately couldn't find away past the Eastwood keeper who made three to four excellent saves, Gleniffer got punished for missing many chances and in a rare Eastwood attack they were awarded a freekick outside the box in 27 mins played in the second half and the ball was whipped over Gleniffer's defence who stood motionless as two Eastwood players drifted to the back post and one slid in and volleyed past the helpless keeper. This was the wake up call that Gleniffer needed to finish this tie and with continuous bombardment of Eastwood goal
eventually got there rewards with a stunning goal and hat-trick from Blair Lyons who received the ball 35 yards out looked up and hit a scorcher past the outstretched Eastwood keeper in 36 mins to make it 4-3 Gleniffer and it remained this score until full time. Gleniffer are thro to the next round, however it should have been a lot easier than score suggests, but credit to Eastwood who never stopped working and made it difficult. The ref's MOM was Mark Russell

Under 16 Scottish Cup

Gleniffer Thistle 3 v Barrhead BC 5

With long term injuries still with Gleniffer's squad this was another game that Gleniffer went into having to shuffle players into different positions. Gleniffer couldn't have got a better start to the game and within 4 mins took the lead from some good work and passing between Colin Rose & Adam Drummond

who released a splitting pass to Blair Lyons and his first touch and expertly placed shot beat the advancing keeper to make it 1-0 Gleniffer. These celebrations were short lived as with only 5 minutes played Barrhead equalised from a long throw in and Gleniffer could have cleared but the striker poked the ball in from 3 yards to make it 1-1. Gleniffer were playing well and in 21 minutes of play took the lead from a shot all of 30 yards out by Darren Gilmour, which took a wicked deflection off a Barrhead player and went flying into oppositions net to make it 2-1 Gleniffer, similarly in 25 mins Barrhead equalised with Gleniffer defence not switched from a cross ball, which to be fair  all thought ball was out of play but no whistle when the Barrhead centre half headed the ball across the six yard line and fell to the unmarked striker to tap into net to make it 2-2. For the first time in the game Barrhead went ahead in the 32 minute and their striker who had caused problems to Gleniffer's defence ran past 3 players to shot low by Gleniffer's keeper to make it 3-2 Barrhead. Gleniffer continued to play passing game and were rewarded when in 37 mins when a ball broke to Colin Rose outside the box and he neatly went by two defenders then released a well placed shot into the corner of the net to make it 3-3 and it remained until half time.

The second half continued like the first and was an open game and the next goal was going to be crucial Gleniffer made some good chances but were unlucky not to take the lead, however Barrhead's striker was always a threat with his running and shooting, the next goal came to Barrhead and again it was scored by their striker who again led Gleniffer defence a merry dance and finished to score in 62 mins of play to make it 4-3 Barrhead. Gleniffer were still playing attacking football and done everything but score Colin Rose and Blair Lyons were unlucky not to equalise, however it was Barrhead who finished this Cup tie in 78 mins with that Striker again terrorising the defence and his run beat two defenders then squared the ball back to the other unmarked striker who's first shot from six yards was saved by Gleniffer's keeper, however the ball went back to same player and he shot past the keeper to make it 5-3 Barrhead and this score remained until the final couple of minutes. For the neutral spectator it was a good and attacking game, however Gleniffer will have to work on defending as all other areas did their job. The Ref's MOM was Mark Russell

Under 16 League
Fixture: Clark Drive 6 v Gleniffer Thistle 2

With players long term injuries still effecting Gleniffer's start to the season and more importantly both numbers available and the need to shuffle players into different positions.

The game could not have started as bad for Gleniffer and in 1 minute played they were a goal down to Clark Drive, with a 25 yard shot outside the box 1-0, however Gleniffer started to show that regardless on numbers available they still created chances and within 5 minutes of play a perfectly struck shot 30 yards out from Adam Dardis flew past the Clark Drive keeper and into the corner of the net to make it all square 1-1. Both teams continued to play good football, however Gleniffer were again caught by giving to much room to players outside the box and with their second strike of the game in 20 minutes scored to make it 2-1. Although Gleniffer pushed and played some good football trying to get equaliser, Clark Drive again hit a shot outside Gleniffer's penalty box and it squirmed in at the keepers right hand post into the net to make it 3-1 in 32 mins. The score remained this until halftime.

The second half started with Glennie battling to get back into the game, however Clark Drive scored a fourth in 55 mins played to make it 4-1 to Glennie's credit all of the players battled away to salvage something from the game and again they were caught napping as Clark Drives winger had a good solo run down the right and expertly put his low shot past Glennie's keeper to make it 5-1 in 63 mins. it got worse for Glennie as it seemed that any strike anywhere from their players found the net and Clark Drive with another shot outside the box put the sixth past in 69 mins. Gleniffer continued to keep plugging away and were awarded a penalty after some good work on the ball and in the box by Blair Lyons. The penalty was put away by stand in skipper Colin Rose in 73 mins to make it 6-2. This it remained until fulltime, however not taking anything away from Clark Drive put the score line flatters, however there clinical finishing is where it hurt Gleniffer. There were some good effort shown by many players as some played on thro injury. The referee's MOM was Mark Russell.

Fixture; Gleniffer Thistle (2) v Gourock YAC (3)
Date: Saturday 12 November 2011
Venue: Abbotsinch Park & KO 14.00 PM

This League game was a close fought encounter, with both teams trying to break the deadlock early on in the game and it was Gleniffer who struck first with a splitting pass from Darren Gilmour from defence and Robbie Cameron outpaced the Centre half and rounded the keeper to slot the ball into the empty net to make it 1-0 Glennie in 8 mins played. Gleniffer continued to push for a second and from a corner, Mark Russel appeared to get in front of the Keeper to score Glennie's second in 13 mins played, however and surprisingly the ref awarded a free kick saying the Gleniffer player had infringed the keeper, much to the surprise of all spectators. Unfortunately approx 6 mins later and with Glennie's defence coping with all that Gourock threw at them, it was a mistake from Glennie's keeper, from a corner that Gourock equalised to make it 1-1 in 20 mins played. Both teams continued to find some half chances and it was Gourock Yac who found the second goal from good work by their striker down the right who cut the ball back where two Gourock players were waiting one of which slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 2-1 with 35 mins played. This score line remained until halftime.

The second half started with Gleniffer looking for the equaliser and were unlucky a few times with good runs from Robbie Cameron whose shot just went wide and Colin Rose solo run from midfield to get his shot away and into side netting. Another chance was created when Ryan Russell played a lovely thro ball to his namesake Mark Russsell who when running in on goal and about to pull the trigger an extended foot came from the defender to clear the danger. Gleniffer got caught when in possession near the halfway line when their player took to many touches and the Gourock player raced down their left and made a pass that caught the defence out for the Gourock striker to fire in their third goal in 28 mins played of the second half to make it 3-1. Gleniffer showed good character and continued to work hard and again made some chances, another good solo run by Colin Rose seen his shot saved, another thro ball to Robbie Cameron seen his shot wide of target, however with 3 mins remaining this time a burst thro from Midfield from Colin Rose who beat three defenders seen his shot fly past the keeper to make it 3-2, however although Gleniffer threw everything at Gourock they held on to win 3-2. To a neutral spectator Gleniffer should have taken something and were disappointed due to the amount of hard work and commitment shown, along with team spirit shown in the face of both suspensions and injuries. The Ref MOM was Colin Rose, however there were many good performances from players who were asked to play in unfamiliar positions (Darren Gilmour, Ollie Lincoln, Connor Hibbert and Ryan Russell to name a few). Another positive was trialists thrown in who coped well for their first game.

Under 16 1st Round West Regional Cup
Gleniffer Thistle 7 v Broomhill BC 1

Gleniffer were hosting a team from Glasgow's league in this first round cup encounter and lived up to be a cracking game from Glennie's perspective. The first half started with Glennie immediately taking control and within 4 minutes had scored the first goal of the game, which came from some good work down the left flank by Mark Russell who cut the ball back in the penalty spot and Colin Rose expertly rifled a shot that flew past Broomhill's keeper to make it 1-0. Glennie continued to play some good football and again in 10 mins played a thro ball by Adam Dardis over the defence which seen Mark Russell outpace the defence and neatly lobbed the ball over the advancing keeper to make it 2-0. Broomhill were unlucky not to score, however Darren Gilmour who slotted in at Sweeper for this game made a goal line clearance, however it was Glennie who after some good interlinking play between Oliver Lincoln and Robbie Cameron in midfield then played a perfect pass to Mark Russell who beat the defender on the left then rifled a left foot shot past the keeper to score his second and Gleniffer’s third goal to make it 3-0 with 29 mins played. This having been a good half for Glennie wasn't finished after some good work by Ryan Russell who passed the ball to Mark Russell and he ghosted by two defenders one of which pulled him down in the box to gain a penalty. This was taken by Captain Colin Rose who fired the ball past the keeper to score his second of the game and Gleniffer's fourth to make it 4-0 and this score line remained until halftime.

The second half started and within a minute Broomhill had scored from a thro ball that caught Glennie's defence sleeping and their striker slotted past the keeper to make it 4-1. This had the desired effect that the game was not over and within 5 mins of the second half as Mark Russell collected the ball outside the box and beat three players to create a chance and fired in a right foot shot past Broomhill's keeper for his hat trick and Gleniffer's fifth to make it 5-1. Broomhill did make a couple of chances, however some good saves by Gleniffer's keeper Mark Parsons denied Broomhill anyway back into this game and subsequently with 24 mins played in the second half midfielder Colin Rose made a solo run and expertly finished to score his hat trick and Gleniffer's sixth to make it 6-1. Gleniffer continued to dominate and with some good passing around midfield then forward to Robbie Cameron outside the box and his first touch lay off found Mark Russell whose first time strike flew past Broomhill's keeper to score his fourth and Glennie's seventh to make it 7-1 with 37 mins of second half played, the score line remained until fulltime. This was a pleasing display, which the team showed togetherness and commitment and will be required throughout the season. The Ref's MOM was Mark Russell.

Under 16 League

Glenvale 1 Gleniffer Thistle 0

This League game was an evenly fought contest. The game started with some hefty challenges early and continued throughout the game. Both teams tried to take the initiative, however in all areas of the park both teams were cancelling each other out. Most of the chances in the first half were from both teams were long range efforts, although Gleniffer did create a half chance when the ball was put over Glenvale's defence in 25 mins played by Adam Drummond who picked out Robbie Cameron on the penalty spot who took it first time and his shot unfortunately went just by the post in 25 mins played. The score remained 0-0 at halftime.

The second half started similar to the first with both teams trying to take control, however Glenvale were using long ball to try and get in behind Gleniffer's defence, however as like in the first half Gleniffer's defence dealt with everything and with 15 mins played in second half Glennie were unlucky not take the lead when again good work in midfield and a perfect cross from new player Blair McDonald found Adam Drummond expertly control with a first touch then made space by trickery by two defenders and his lob just wasn't high enough to finish a good move. Glenvale also continued and won three corners consecutively only again for Glennie to deal with.  Unfortunately and undeservedly Glenvale got the break through when again a high ball was sent over Glennie's defence and defender and keeper both waited for each other to take the initiative outside the box and in that hesitation the Glenvale striker took this opportunity and to be fair still had some work to do when put a low shot past Gleniffer's keeper to make it 1-0 in 31 mins played. Gleniffer continued searching for the equaliser, however one of the Glenvale challenges was a step to far and the player after a second booking was sent off in 34 mins played, Gleniffer continued to bombard Glenvale for the last 5 mins and just couldn't get the break they deserved from this game and the score remained 1-0 at fulltime. Gleniffer coaches could not have asked of anymore from the team and to come away with no points is particularly hard on this performance. There were many good performances from many players who were asked to play in unfamiliar positions. The Ref MOM was Adam Dardis.

Under 16 League

Fixture; Gleniffer Thistle 4 v Giffnock Thistle 4

This League game was changed from Saturday to Sunday due to weather and availability of astro park.

This was the first game that Gleniffer had a full squad to pick from as previously the squad players were either injured or suspended. The game started well for Gleniffer and started to take control in all areas of the park and the first goal came with 12 minutes played when a ball knocked thro from Colin Rose was picked up by Mark Russell who 25 yards out lobbed the Giffnock keeper to make it 1-0 Gleniffer, however the joy was short lived as within 2 minutes of Gleniffer going ahead Giffnock striker struck a shot outside the penalty box and scored to make it 1-1. Gleniffer again took the lead in 18 mins when a corner kick was taken by Brian Hanlon and was met by Mark Russell who headed into score his and Gleniffer's second goal to make it 2-1. With Gleniffer in control it came as no surprise when in 31 mins they scored again this time from another corner, which Giffnock failed to clear and Ollie Lincoln fired the loose ball into the net from 3 yards out to make it 3-1 this score remained until halftime.

The second half started with Giffnock pressing to try and salvage something from the game and in 10 mins into second half they scored to make it 3-2, which gave them a lift and with 20 mins played they equalised from  a resultant corner kick with the striker ahead of Gleniffer's defender to side foot in to equalise 3-3. Gleniffer were shell shocked as they had dominated most of the game, however they rallied and got their rewards when with 32 mins played in second half a ball was squared across the 18 yard line by Adam Drummond and was met by Mark Russell first time shot that flew past the Giffnock Keeper to make it 4-3 to Gleniffer. The game continued with Gleniffer dealing with any threat from Giffnock, however with 45 mins played in the second half and with the last kick of the ball Giffnock scored an equaliser to make it 4-4, all of Gleniffer's players and coaches were dismayed due to the amount of hard work and performance that Glennie put in and deserved all 3 points. There were many good performances from many players who again played in unfamiliar positions to the benefit of the team. The Ref MOM was Mark Russell.

Clark Drive 5 v Gleniffer Thistle 1

The game started brightly for Gleniffer considering that they were down to the bare bones and having to ask players in unfamiliar positions, who made a couple of half chances in the first 5 minutes, however Clark Drive with there first attack scored a low shot outside the box to make it 1-0, it got worse for Glennie in 7 minutes Clark Drive scored a second from a corner that the clearance fell to an unmarked Clark Drive player who then hit a strike just inside the box which flew past the helpless keeper to make it 2-0. This had an impact in that Gleniffer raised their game and started to battle there way back into the game and with 20 minutes played were rewarded when a thro ball passed thro from Colin Rose found Adam Drummond and with a lot of work to do beat the defender and keeper to score for Gleniffer to make it 2-1. Both teams continued to make chances and a golden chance fell when a well flighted ball from Lewis Webb that found Adam Drummond and unfortunately ball went away from him at a crucial moment in the box, however it was Clark Drive who scored the next goal from their strikers solo run down the right hand side of the park and won three tackles to then slot the ball into the net to make it 3-1 this score remained until halftime.
The second half started badly for Gleniffer and in 1 minute played of the second half and from a corner kick Clark Drive's centre half rose above everyone to head past Gleniffer's keeper to make it 4-1. The score line flattered Clark Drive but the difference was clinical finishing, Gleniffer continued to press for a goal to get a back into the game, but with 35 mins played and to rub salt into wounds Clark Drive scored another to make the Final score 5-1. Gleniffer officials although disappointed in the result were fairly upbeat about the effort the team showed and no disagreements in where some players were asked to play. The ref MOM was Adam Dardis.

Gleniffer Thistle 4 v Milngavie Wanderers 1

Gleniffer went into this game with only 13 fit players, the game started brightly for Gleniffer and started to control the game with credit given to them due to weather conditions in the first half. They created a few chances in the first 10 minutes and were unlucky from shots by Robbie Cameron and Mark Russell, however in 20 minutes played a nice pass from midfield by Colin Rose that found Lewis Webb who just inside the left side of the penalty box hit his well driven shot past the helpless keeper to make it 1-0 to Gleniffer. With Gleniffer playing with confidence and defensively never gave Milngavie a look at goal, they deservedly got there second goal, which seen Colin Rose have a solo run by midfield players then ghosted by the defence and expertly finished by lobbing the advancing keeper from outside the box to make it 2-0 Glennie in 25 minutes played. Things got better for Glennie when a high ball played by Adam Dardis in Milngavie penalty box was expertly controlled first time by Lewis Webb and his turn and shot flew past the keeper to score his second and Gleniffer's third goal to make it 3-0 in 32 minutes played. Milngavie couldn't find away past Gleniffer's defence, however they managed to get the ball by Glennie's keeper from a long range free kick outside the box in 37minutes played to make it 3-1 and it remained this score until halftime.
The weather conditions in the first half were bad and the ref commented that if it gets as bad in the second half he will make the decision on whether to continue, fortunately the weather improved in the second half. Milngavie started more aggressively in the second half, which we presume was from their officials to try and get back into the game, although Milngavie had more possession in the first 15 minutes of second half, however gleniffer's defence dealt with anything that they could thro at them. Both teams continued to try and get the goal they would either settle the game or bring other team back into it and it was Gleniffer that got the fourth goal in 70 minutes played, when a shot from Adam Drummond was parried away by the keeper and not to be undone by his brother Callum Webb lobbed the keeper to make it 4-1. The score remained this till full time, Gleniffer deservedly won this game and collectively was a good team performance and special thanks to Brian Hallan who volunteered to play in goals when normal goalie injured prior to kick off. The refs Man of the Match went to team captain Colin Rose
